la blue girl

Just for the sake of posting.  Nothing really special here.  I didn't feel heavily inspired this weekend, but I did get to go out with friends and family for some good times.  I just gotta prepare for the rest of the week and make strides in my art game.

The species known as the zeta reticuli surfs the cosmos to earn some street err...space cred?!

Mr. Meeseeks

I'm ready for some more rick and morty and am looking forward to season 2.  It's off to a great start.  I decided I really wanted to do some fan art.  Something simple.  I just played around with different brushes and blend modes.  I've seen digital artist do some really interesting stuff just by playing around with different brushes and settings.

structure studies

Trying to wrap my head around the amount of detail it takes to draw/paint buildings and structures.  I pushed myself and tried to get as detail oriented as possible.  There's plenty of detail that I could've/should've added, but hopefully I've learned something from it.

Character concept

Character concept for a client. Gonna have to work on a few features before it's finalized.

commissioned artwork

Just some work for a client.  I've been working with him for some time now, helping him out with his train related board game projects.  This here is a cover for the board game "Trainline: New York Edition".  There's definitely some crazy experience that can be had in the public transportation ride.  I'm having lot's of fun with these pieces.

studies

A study in body type variations.  It's easy to get stuck on super hero proportions, so I'm just breaking the habit.

Juggernaut design sketch

Heard the news that Juggernaut was going to be in the xmen movie.  I just decided I'd take a shot at how I'd like to see him portrayed in a movie.  Well, it can use some work, but it's good practice.

Gangreen

Another character design I'm working for a client.  He's all about going green.

Concept art

I'm really trying to get a feel for this character.  Character development can get pretty intensive at times. Brain racking.  Well, I guess that can be applied to any type of development.  But it's still one of my favorite things to work on.  Giving a character his/her unique look and attitude.  But as a professional, I know that I also have to make time for other areas, such as environment design, vehicle design, etc.  Although this guy probably won't be needing a car to travel lol.  But one step at a time.
Working on my "painterly" skills.

Mr. Soul action shot

Just a sketch to get a feel for the character.  I like to just keep it loose and just have fun with these sketches.  Getting my sketch on while I watch Rick and Morty.  That show is too hilarious.  Great show.  Definitely check it out if you haven't.  It's going to be a great day today.  My ol' folks will be having a nice little cookout.  Life is good.  Life is what you make of it.  Keep it classy folks.  Keep it simple.

Character creation

Getting some character art down for a client.  This guy's name is Mr. Soul.  He's heavily influenced by the day of the dead or "dia de los muertos" sugar skulls.

Robopaisa 6 pager

My bro and I tag teamed this little project a couple of months ago.  Robopaisa is a man on a mission of vengeance.  We are still developing the story and characters and have big plans set out for our main man here.  There'll be blood and tears, both in the development process as well as the story.  I just thought it'd be nice to share this with the audience.  I definitely want to get back to this project as I feel it can go in several different and interesting directions.  This first go is still a bit rough around the edges, but I do feel a sense of accomplishment from it.

Room study

Did an intensive study on a photo.  Trying to get a good understanding of lighting, depth and perspective.  This one was actually very enjoyable and I think I might have learned a bit or two.  But then again, maybe not lol.

The samurai known as Mesaruh

This is a sketch of the main protagonist for the space samurai story "Suna", which is still in the work in progress stage. Slice and dice!!

Some more sketchin'

Just a lizard creature.  A reptilian if you will.  I've have heard some wild theories based on the idea that there is a race of evolved reptilian species that works as a parasitic organism.  But it's wild, and I'm not sure what to think of it.  Definitely interesting that's for sure.

Commissioned artwork

I was contacted by a client to create this piece to symbolize the challenges of a marriage and the ultimate road to paradise that a marriage is.  A very sentimental piece indeed.

Mushroom city work in progress

This was a theme for a group on facebook known as "spitpaint".  The catch is you take one of several themes and see what you can create in 30 mins.  It's very challenging and there are individuals that do out of this world pieces. It's like magic to me.  But It's very fun as well.  This one is based off of the theme of Mushroom city.  I think i'm about an 1.5 hours into it.  I was really getting into it and hope that I can push myself to get something final.  Otherwise it'll just end up in the work in progress stash.  So many ideas, so little time.  tisk tisk.

light studies

Working on my light studies.  Just grabbed some objects, toys in this case, and placed a lightsource.  It's a bit more challenging than just working off a photo.  But a great learning experience.

Dino hunter

I was trying to make this a speed paint, but I ended up spending about 1.5 hrs possibly on this.  I don't know how some of the bigger dogs do it, it seems like magic to me.  They can get so much detail, basically painting an elaborate scene in a matter of 30 mins.  I guess like anything else, just practice, dedication, time, and a magic wand.  Well, I try not to take it too seriously, as it's all about having fun.  Just gotta keep truckin.
